Rain At Last

It is what we have all been waiting for. After months and months of hot, dry days we have finally had two decent falls of rain. Two weeks ago we had 20 mils overnight and on Wednesday night we had another 16 mils. This morning we went bush walking to Christmas Rock, just so that I could check out the condition of the walk trail. I am now volunteering at the visitor centre and feel that I must check out the local attractions if I am going to advise people to visit them. The walk trail itself is about 3 1/2 klm and is an easy walk. Trees that looked as if they were dying 3 weeks ago now are greening up again and showing much less stress, the magic of rain.

Started off with clear blue sky but this had turned to grey and light rain again  by the time we had finished our walk.

Parts of the walk trail are under water and

looking more like a creek than what the creek does.

This creek runs through the track and frogs could be heard, but not seen  in the grass

Sea Urchin Hakea are starting to flower, this was a surprise as they did not flower at all last year

A view over to the Hills and farm paddocks are starting to get a green tinge to them. Blue sky now all but gone.

 

Shadow Shot Sunday 2

These past weeks have been far too hot for much walking, mostly it has been around the block  after dark. However,  I took advantage of a cooler morning and did a circuit of Christmas Rock, looking carefully where I was walking just in case a snake or  goanna was about. The walk trail was nice and shady in parts so this is my contribution to Shadow Shot Sunday 2

For the final Skywatch of 2013 I have this shot taken from Christmas Rock a few weeks ago. I can't believe how quickly this year has passed, I know there's 24 hours in every day but I guess the older we get the quicker they go.  I trust you all had as wonderful a  Christmas with Family and Friends as we did..

This Morning's Walk

All was calm this morning after yesterday's strong winds and rain. A cool, crisp morning so it was ideal walking weather, so we walked along the road to the airstrip. I wanted to check out whether any of the bush shrubs were beginning to flower. I found a couple of early bloomers so it won't be long now before more colour brightens up the road verges and bushland. From the airstrip we took a track which came out on Christmas Rock which was filled with rock pools of water.

Ressurrection bush changes colour once the rains come. Last time I was there they were brown. Now they are becoming a bright orange colour.
