Walking and Skywatching

We woke up last Sunday morning and agreed that it was a good day to go for a 5klm walk along the Mount Matilda Walk Trail, about 12 klms out of  Wongan Hills. Packed a couple of sandwiches and a flask of coffee as there are  benches along the way to sit and take in the views over the country side.  Enjoy the views and sky.

Mt Matilda Walk Trail

This morning HOM & I, along with another couple went on a 3 hour bush walk along the Mount Matilda Walk Trail in the Wongan Hills. Our guide was Ian, an extremely fit 84 year old. Being new to town he offered to show us the area. Ian has been taking tourists around the local area for many years now. His knowledge of the plant life is second to none. Some rare species of plants are found only in this area and he is keen to share with anyone who is interesed. I do not however remember any of the botanical names he gave but I do know that when we walk this trail again I will have a greater appreciation. There are very few plants in flower at present but they do start to bloom from June to November, so a monthly walk of the area will be in order. We did however spot an echidna in the bush, Ian showed us various spider webs, some of which I had never heard of before. There is a curtain spider, pebble spider and also the trapdoor which I have heard of.
