Rocks #3 "The Pinnacles"
The Pinnacles Desert is in Nambung National Park near Cervantes in Western Australia. There are thousands of eerie limestone pillars rising out of the stark desert landscape of yellow quartz sand. Driving along the Indian Ocean Drive, with the blue ocean and white sand dunes there is no inkling to what lies ahead. The desert comes alive with wildflowers in the springtime. The limestone formations of The Pinnacles vary in size, some very small and some 3.5meters high and of varying shapes. They have been likened to tombstones, termite mounds or fingers. It is certainly well worth the visit if you get the chance, there is a one way road through with places to pull over and stop along the way.
