Flame Grevillea

These magnificent grevilleas are now flowering along roadsides throughout the Western Australian  Wheatbelt now. With the good heavy rainfall we had during August they are flowering more proficiently than in previous years. Grevillea Excelsior is commonly known as the Flame Grevillea

Lemon Tree

I have an abundance of Lemons at present, as you can see from the photos.  I have given away so many but still it is loaded. I have made lemon butter, lemon cordial and frozen lemon juice to use when I no longer have lemons on the tree. Any further suggestions would be welcome.

Just a Little Train

Why is it when there is a deadline to meet, you get caught at a railway crossing?. This happened to us last week on the way to Toodyay to meet up with friends.  We always allow plenty of time but didn't count on getting caught as the trains are few and far between these days. We got caught by the same train twice  at two  railway crossings, there is actually  the opportunity to get stuck at three crossings, two on the way into Goomalling and one on the way out. I guess we are lucky we missed the third. This train was carrying grain and had 50 carriages attached to it. That's what you do, count carriages while you are waiting, tapping your fingers on the dash.

Mellow Yellows

All I could find for todays Yellow Meme was a few sparse hibiscus flowers. This tree had double flowers on it last year but this time around they have reverted to singles.    It also puts out the occasional pink flower too.     Today I spotted one solitary half pink, half yellow flower which is a double

These orchids were found in different areas of bush close to home , sometimes they are difficult to find, given that they are quite small in size.  Now that I know where to look it will be easier to spot them next year.

 

Sunshine Yellows

The canola crops are in flower now. The countryside is ablaze with these bright yellow paddocks. It just gladdens the heart to see all this colour.

Lemon Tree

After a long hot summer, where my lemon tree was under quite a lot of stress, it is now producing some worthwhile lemons once more.  The little bit of winter rain we have had has revived it. Although the fruit is not large it is slowly ripening. It always reminds me of the old Peter, Paul and Mary song,  Lemon Tree.  (Come on sing a line or two, you know you want to)

The Pinnacles

We took a  trip to Nambung National Park while my family was visiting for Easter. This is home to limestone formations known as the The Pinnacles. These amazing natural limestone structures, some standing as high as five metres, were formed approximately 25,000 to 30,000 years ago, after the sea receded and left deposits of sea shells. Over time, coastal winds removed the surrounding sand, leaving the pillars exposed to the elements.

Dryandra

There were numerous sections of the highway ablaze with these these beautiful yellow dryandra flowers when we recently visited Bremer Bay in WA's South. They are a member of the Banksia genus. For more yellow to brighten your day visit   with Monday Mellow Yellows

Monday Mellow Yellows

It has surprised me that anything is still alive in my garden after our weekend of extreme heat. The temps have  hit 45 degrees (celcius) for the past 3 days up here. Thankfully a cooler change has come today.   Linking with Monday Mellow Yellows

1 solitary hibiscus flower in shade has survived. Most of the other buds have shrivelled.

These hardy little daisy type flowers are still trying to smile (I don't know what these actually are)
