Flame Grevillea

These magnificent grevilleas are now flowering along roadsides throughout the Western Australian  Wheatbelt now. With the good heavy rainfall we had during August they are flowering more proficiently than in previous years. Grevillea Excelsior is commonly known as the Flame Grevillea

Bailingup

Visitors to Bailingup certainly won't miss the Visitor Centre with these brightly coloured attractions on the front verandah. Bailingup has many art and craft stores and each August hosts a Medieval Carnivale. A lot of alternate lifestylers have made this town their home.

Nannup Fence

I found this brightly painted fence in the South West town of Nannup. It certainly stands out from the crowd. What a great idea for a project.

Boyup Brook Mural

I hadn't meant to have such a long absence from blogging, I realise it's now been a month. I must try and catch up with what's been happening in blogland.  Anyway, I came across this quaint mural painted  on the outside wall of a real estate agents office  in the South West town of Boyup Brook.  The open gate caught my attention. I love how it is open and leads up the path to the house. It also helps hide the air conditioner  unit which has been painted green to blend in also.

Plough Disc Poppies

These bright red  "poppies" on the roadside at Ballidu were created from old plough discs and painted to commemorate the 100 year Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.

Another tribute was at the War Memorial where these steel cut outs now stand. They represent the Army, Navy, Air Force and which I thought was a nice touch, the Nurses.

 

 

 

Caves Road Trees n Bushes

Today I found a new meme, called Trees n Bushes and since I have quite a few tree pics in my albums this is a great way of showing them off. I am starting with one of my favourite drives and that is a section of  Caves Road in the Margaret River area. Along this drive we pass through Boranup Karri Forest.  This is a scene which always stays in my mind.

Skywatching

This morning we woke to the smell of smoke from the out of control bushfires which have ravaged the south west of our state since last Friday. We have had severe thunderstorms and lightening is responsible. We are roughly 600 kilometres away from these fires but we are now experiencing smoke haze from Northcliffe and Boddington  fires. Our beautiful South West forests are ablaze. The people of Northcliffe and Windy Harbour have been evacuated. So far, no loss of life, a few properties are gone. The firey's have all been working around the clock and are all  exhausted , reinforcements have been flown in from interstate to help out. The loss of wildlife in these forests will be huge, they are at the mercy of the fire. Latest news today is that the weather conditions are at last favouring the fire fighters, but weather conditions are set to worsen over the weekend.

This morning's firey sun rising

 

I took hundreds of photos of the lightening on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights with only a few successful. I was shooting into black sky and then the sky would illuminate as if it was daylight.

Skywatching

It is not often now that I get to see the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Last week we spent a couple of days at Coogee Beach, south of Fremantle. The sunset on Friday night topped off a lovely stroll along the beach.

This tranquil spot at Noble Falls is one of our favourite pit stops when returning from a trip to Perth. Tuesday was no exception, and  with more water flowing from the heavy rain last weekend.
