Through My Lens

The wildflowers in my region have been quite spectacular so far this spring. These are but a few of the many species found in Wongan Hills on my recent walks. Unfortunately, I can't put a name to them all.

Wildflowers in Wongan Hills

The spate of warm weather we have been having has hastened the appearance of various wildflowers in the area. A bushwalk close to home gave me an opportunity to snap a few as they start to colour the otherwise dry bushland. Some good heavy rain last night will see more coming out in the coming weeks. I can't tell you the names of all these, all I know is that they look pretty. I am attempting to learn more of the botanical names, but trouble is, in one ear, out the other, if you can relate to that. As you can see in the photos there are 3 distinct soil types in this small area of bush, from white sand, to yellow sand and then the gravelly rock type soil which gives us such a diverse array of wildflowers.

Walk along the white sandy track, with the wheat paddocks in the distance

Up another track and it is yellowish sand

Now we are headed back towards home and at the back of the hospital, canola crops in the background, dead trees didn't survive last summer's searing heat

Pretty everlastings growing in the rocky area

Houses in the distance, we are not lost

Ant mounds and a large fungi along with a lone pink and grey galah keeping watch were spotted along the way, numerous other birds were enjoying the morning but they were too quick for me.

Today's Wildflower Walk

We keep finding bush tracks off other bush tracks. What started out this morning as a "quick walk" turned into a 2 hour 6 klm trek. Yellow colouring is abundant.

More Wongan Hills Wildflowers

Our bush is colouring up beautifully now. Here are a few more varieties of wildflowers that I have come across close to home. Unfortunately I don't know the names of them all.
