My day started a little sluggishly this morning. I didn't wake till 7am, must have needed the sleep.By the time I had got up and showered and had breakfast it was around 9-30. I had said to HOM yesterday that we should walk to the town dam today and he kept me to it. It is a small dam which supplies water for the watering of the parks and ovals in town. Our drinking water comes from the main Kalgoorlie Pipeline, which was quite an engineering feat when it opened in the 1900's . The pipeline runs around 600klm from Perth to Kalgoorlie in the goldfields. Anyway we eventually found the dam by following the water channel from Christmas Rock. It was a beautiful morning for walking through the bush. I must admit we did take the shorter way back to town along the road. By the time we arrived back to town we had covered 6 klm, so a stop off at the bakery for a coffee was in order. I needed that so I could walk the final 1 klm home.

Amazing country you live in...I always heard it was really dangerous in the bush. Is it not?
ReplyDeleteIt can be dangerous in the bush. I try to avoid bush walking in the middle of summer as I don't like snakes. They hibernate now for the cooler months so I figure that I am safe (I hope)

And I can't believe I haven't heard of Salmon gums!
I resisted the pastry Rose, thought that I would be undoing my exercise if I participated. The salmon gums Rose have a beautiful salmon coloured bark and grow very large.

DeleteGreat to get a glimpse of your Australian Shelduck pair on the dam. Our dams desperately need replenishing as well and kangaroos may be great on our national emblem but they wreck all our fences and decrease our stocking rates enormously.
