Camellias

Nothing beats a show of Camellias in the garden at this time of year. As my pinkish purple one finishes flowering my red/pink one takes over. This one sits right outside my front door.

Plough Disc Poppies

These bright red  "poppies" on the roadside at Ballidu were created from old plough discs and painted to commemorate the 100 year Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.

Another tribute was at the War Memorial where these steel cut outs now stand. They represent the Army, Navy, Air Force and which I thought was a nice touch, the Nurses.

Just a Little Train

Why is it when there is a deadline to meet, you get caught at a railway crossing?. This happened to us last week on the way to Toodyay to meet up with friends.  We always allow plenty of time but didn't count on getting caught as the trains are few and far between these days. We got caught by the same train twice  at two  railway crossings, there is actually  the opportunity to get stuck at three crossings, two on the way into Goomalling and one on the way out. I guess we are lucky we missed the third. This train was carrying grain and had 50 carriages attached to it. That's what you do, count carriages while you are waiting, tapping your fingers on the dash.

The end. No I wasn't going to bore you with all the photos of the carriages.

Ruby Tuesday

These little beauties came out of my vege garden. My first pickings.  Sweet and oh so tasty.

Camellias

The first flowers on my camellia. They seem to be a little later,  smaller, and less buds this year.

Ruby Tuesday Too

If there is one thing that has welcomed the heat these past weeks, it's my tomatoes. Red, ripe and delicious, I have made jars of  relish, pasta sauce, salsa and semi dried some.

Lethal Weapon

This is my latest weapon to attack the highly annoying Aussie Fly. Now, instead of always reaching for the can, I test out my reflexes and swat the little buggars when they land a hard surface inside with my RED fly swat. No matter how hard you try to keep them out there is always one or two who like to scurry inside whenever a door is opened. When all else fails, out comes the RED can of Mortein, . The baits that I have outside are a bit too gruesome to show here, they too are very effective. The flies are attracted to the smell of the bait, enter the bottle, can't get out and then drown. One less fly to annoy me. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Gathercole Reserve

It was such a beautiful morning so we took a drive out to Gathercole for a walk. It is roughly a 3.5  klm loop trail but we ended up doing around 5 klm deviating. Each time we have been here the scenery has been different, gradually colouring as the months have gone by.

The walk trail is easily followed by markers along the way.

There are numerous rocky outcrops with some interesting formations

Can you spot the giant lizard, or is it a seal ?

Or the toes

This is Granite Kunzea. It is growing in cracks in the rocks. How it survives, let alone flowers prolifically is beyond me.

A dinosaur egg maybe?

The neighbouring wheat paddocks are starting to turn golden

Kangaroo Paws

It is spring, so it is  time for our kangaroo paws to flower. These were taken at Wireless Hill, a large reserve, smack bang in the middle of an expensive suburb in Perth. The property developers would love the land for housing but thankfully it is gazetted as a flora reserve. I just love these red and green kangaroo paws. They are also the Western Australian State Floral Emblem.

Sweet Peas

Imagine my disappointment when all my sweet peas turned out to be  the same colour, but I do love their display and fragrance.  I transplanted them when they started popping up in various garden beds. I was unsure what was going to appear in the garden this spring as I have only been here 6 months and the house had been empty for over 2 years. They give me a photo for  Ruby Tuesday Too though.
