I spotted this cute little cottage with it's white picket fence while I was out on a walk yesterday. Due to termites being a problem through out the wheatbelt, this fence is actually constructed of plastic, therefore no termite damage and no painting.

St Peters Church sits high at the end of the street. The old stone fence is perfect for ground covers to spill over.

Mt O'Brien gives some fantastic 360 degree views over the countryside on clear days like this. From this side we are looking north over wheat farms and Lake Hinds in the distance. This sturdy fence is needed as there is quite a steep decent  down the hill.

Bougainvillea

I looked no further than my own old fibro fence for todays FF pic. The bougainvillea is starting to cover it up nicely now. There is not a lot of colour around in the garden at present so the bougainvillea now has the stage to itself. It is also providing a  nice screen  from the street.

This black wrought iron fence with its beautiful display of red roses behind caught my eye on a walk the other day. Joining in with Fridays Fences

 

 

The Rabbit Proof Fence

This fence lays claim to being the longest  fence in the world. It was constructed between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits and other vermin out of Western Australia. In the 1950's myxomatosis was introduced to control the rabbits, the fence still remains and but is now called The State Barrier Fence of WA.  You can read more about it  here

My dividing fence between us and the next door neighbours has recently been replaced. Lenny and Lucy, mother and son ( Dogs that is ) can no longer use my yard as a shortcut to escape unseen.  Now that it is done I will have to start planting  along this side. Bottlebrush are now flowering as a backdrop to the fence. The honeyeaters and bees just love these.

This cow thought I must have had some food for her. She came up to the fence to check out what I was doing. She made a nice subject behind the fence.

Pink Sheep ?

I almost forgot about this photo that I took whilst in New Zealand last month. Sheepworld is on the main highway near Warkworth. I had to do a double take when I thought I had spotted pink sheep. Hubby did the obligatory back up as he didn't believe me. We visited this wonderful tourist attraction, a  sheep farm, some years ago and marveled at the working sheep dogs, sheep shearing and feeding the lambs. I do remember having "the mickey" taken out of me because I was an Aussie but it was all in good fun. I made the mistake of putting my hand up when the host asked if there were any Australians in the audience. There has always been a friendly rivalry between Aussies and Kiwis.

This weeks fence is a bit different. It is the Valley of The Giants Tree Top Walk at Walpole WA, . The fence is to protect you from falling off  40 meters high above the trees. Linking with  Fridays Fences

Fridays Fences

Today's fences  are along Ferguson Valley Road in Western Australia's South West. This stretch of road meanders through lush farmland and is such a beautiful drive. Where the road meets at a junction is an area known as Gnomesville.  Someone started leaving a few gnomes in a patch of land off the roadside and over the years it has now grown and they have their own little village. I must return one day to find the little fella that we left there.

Our local football team, Wongan-Ballidu, The Boomers, play in the finals this weekend. My fence this week comes from the Sports Ground, where football, hockey, basketball and cricket are all played. The water to keep the grounds nice and green is recycled water which is pumped into to tanks at the oval from a catchment area north of town. On game days cars are parked all around the outside of the oval.

Peaceful Resting Place

Our recent visit to New Zealand was mainly for hubby to catch up with his family. Catching up with some meant a visit to the Dargaville Cemetery, which has this wonderful view over the rolling hills. It is such a picturesque resting place. As he was paying his respects to various people I went off to photograph fences and sky, ever mindful that it would provide some material for FF or Skywatch.

Fridays Fences

All is not as it seems with this pic. I have driven past this little church at Korrongonning (try saying that 10 times quickly) many times without taking a pic for Fridays Fences. Last week I stopped and I must say how disappointed I was. Here was I thinking white picket fence, wood of course.  Not so, it is actually a white plastic picket fence.  It suddenly lost some of it's appeal.

Here's a fun pic for today's fence , taken in New Zealand when we were there last year.  I personally would not like to be feeding this fella. Thankfully there was fence between me and him, not that he wouldn't be able to just step over it. It wasn't until I got closer to him I realised he was standing on a table. A beautiful Great Dane..  We are off to NZ again on Sunday for a short trip so hopefully will find some good fences to share.
