Good Fences with Critters

I haven't found too many interesting fences of late so a lunch with friends supplied me with this added bonus of a couple of  Good Fences and some Saturday's Critters

How cool do we look with our fly covers on, say the donkeys

Not to be out done, Mr Horse says look at my cool shades

And then the rains came and of course he had to have a roll

Rusty Gate

The landscape around here has changed dramatically since we had 5 inches of good soaking rain while we were away. The crops were looking very poorly but have now flourished. There is a fence which is rather insignificant amongst the irredesant canola crop, but the gate by this old unlived in house stands out. Linking today with

Slater Homestead Goomalling

A few weeks back whilst out on a Sunday drive, I had to do a double take when passing Slater Homestead in Goomalling. In years gone by it was home to the Slater Family and also a wayside inn from 1888 for pioneers and travellers. It is now a museum and tea room and has recently been renovated while still keeping it's old charm.  Sitting out side overlooking a paddock was an old piano. You never know what you are going to see along the roadsides out here. This on it's own was worth stopping for a photo but we ended up having  a cup of tea and  scone after looking through the old house.
Linking today with Theresa's Good Fences because there is a fence of sorts

Vege Garden Update

After 38 mils of welcome rain last week the vege garden has suddenly had a spurt of growth. Our little patch has been very productive during the winter months and there is nothing nicer than going outside to pick some fresh produce. Broccoli and silverbeet are now ready to start picking and beetroot is not too far off now. Today has been a cool but sunny day, a good day to get the camera out and shoot a few shots and since there is a fence or two and a bit of sky I will share them with Good Fences and Skywatch Friday

At the moment we have broccoli, red cabbage, silverbeet, carrots, turnips, parsnips ,onions, beetroot, chilli, capsicums, peas, garlic, parsley, lettuce and rocket growing.

Making Honey

I recently spent a few days down at Donnelly River which is an old timber milling town, now used as holiday homes in the forest.  The apiarist from Nannup Brook Farms had relocated his bee hives in a paddock where the marri and karri trees were in flower. We came across them removing the honey. I just had to buy a jar when I saw it on sale at the General Store. It is one of the nicest honey's I have tasted, so thick, not at all like the runny commercially produced honey. Since there is a flimsy wire fence in these photos I will link to Good Fences. The pics may be a little hazy as they smoke the bees out to collect the honey

Some of the  local wildlife were watching us as we were watching the bee keepers.

Nannup Fence

I found this brightly painted fence in the South West town of Nannup. It certainly stands out from the crowd. What a great idea for a project.

Good Fences

The Gingin Hotel has this eyecatching little scene at the side of it.  It made me look twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

Colourful Bougainvillea

The extreme heat up here is finally waning so all of a sudden everything is beginning to look alive again. Thought I would show off my  Good (daggy fibro) Fence which is being covered by the  bougainvillea. I do need to trim it back this weekend which will encourage even more flower heads.

Good Fences

I may have shown this fence before but it would have been a couple of years back after we did a trip to the South island of New Zealand. It is in the town of Kingston on the way to Queenstown.  It came up on my screensaver so brought back memories of a fantastic trip.
