A Mural of Convenience

The final mural for 2013 was taken on our August trip to New Zealands North Island town of Dargaville. The public amenities on the banks of the Northern Wairoa River are painted to match their surroundings. Featured  is the Pohutukawa Tree or is commonly known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree, the Band Rotunda and the River.

The Pohutukawa in the background of this pic are not in flower but when they do they are a vibrant red.

The yellow in the mural represents the Northern Wairoa River which is extremely muddy

Murray River Reflections

These pics are of the Murray River at Pinjarra Western Australia. A suspension bridge spans the river and is a popular picnic spot in this small town for both tourists and locals alike. The trees along the banks make for some lovely reflections in the somewhat murkey waters.

Wongan Hills Sunset

For the final Skywatch of 2013 I have this shot taken from Christmas Rock a few weeks ago. I can't believe how quickly this year has passed, I know there's 24 hours in every day but I guess the older we get the quicker they go.  I trust you all had as wonderful a  Christmas with Family and Friends as we did..

Skywatch Friday

I just had to stop to take a snap of the sun's rays poking through the clouds when we were on our way home from Northam on Tuesday.

Country Town Entrance #4

You just never know what you will see along our country roads here in Western Australia. These eyecatching little fellas popped up every few kilometers in paddocks along the Bruce Rock - Quairading Road.  Linking up with Rurality Blog Hop #44

Heatwave

We are into our 4th day of a heatwave, over 40 degrees, and my vegetable patch is suffering. To minimise the loss we have resorted to using whatever we could find in the garage to give some shade and protection. I have tomatoes, cucumbers, corn and strawberries which are all producing well so don't want to lose them. At present it is 45 degrees outside so they don't really stand much of a chance. One can but hope.  Linking with Shadow Shot Sunday 2

A  chair here and there, a table is handy too. That's about the only use that old ironing board will get today

There's no chance of playing golf today so the golf umbrellas are handy over my herbs in the old bathtub

West Australian Christmas Tree

The nuytsia floribunda, with its striking yellowy/orange coloured flowers appears along our roadsides between November and December so is commonly known as WA Christmas Tree. I spotted these ones on Great Northern Highway on our way back from Moora on Friday.

Skywatch Fridays Fences

Mt O'Brien gives some fantastic 360 degree views over the countryside on clear days like this. From this side we are looking north over wheat farms and Lake Hinds in the distance. This sturdy fence is needed as there is quite a steep decent  down the hill.

Monday Mural

This mural is another one from our recent holiday to Dargaville in New Zealand.  It is a tiled mosaic mural set in the Gardens by the Northern Wairoa River. It has a Maori theme about it and a splash of yellow too.
