Moore River

The Moore River meets the Indian Ocean here at Guilderton. It is a very popular holiday spot. You usually have to book in months ahead if you want a spot at the caravan park. The Rivermouth is a safe spot for the young ones to canoe or swim, fly a kite or slide down the sand dunes.

Piney Lakes Walk

A pine plantation gave way for a suburban sub-division but one of the gems from that is the formation of Piney Lakes Reserve. Once you begin walking through the park you soon forget that you are surrounded by houses on 3 sides and a busy highway on the other. This is a very popular park for walking the dog, bush walking and picnics. In the spring time the wildflowers are a sight to behold, but alas it is summer time here.

Walking paths wind their way through the park

Ducks and other birdlife enjoy the lake

As we walk we come across various sculptures scattered through the park. This kangaroo from a distance was life like.

Another lake is at the northern end of the park. This morning there was a group doing tai chi.

We left the main reserve and followed the trail through the bushland that remains. Here we came upon more scultures scattered along the path. The nocturnal walk  will take on a different perspective when we do it one evening.  There are bat roosting boxes located high in the trees and many small marsupials call the area home. A torch and a sense of adventure will uncover a lot more to see.

HOM (Husband of mine) did a spot of pig whispering. In years gone by there was a piggery at this spot. He then found  some "pelicans" to feed, before discovering that the Wagyl also lived there. The Wagyl is a mythical aboriginal serpent.

Looking up in the trees this delightful angel  appeared.

Paperbark trees lined the boardwalk which took us back to the main picnic area.

Flowering gums

Here we are back at the lake. There are more paths to take in this park but they will wait till next walk.

Fridays Fences

I couldn't  resist stopping and taking a snap of this gorgeous fellow in a paddock out of Dunedin in New Zealand.

Skywatch Friday

Mt Taranaki in New Zealands North Island  was visible above the clouds as we flew over.  This was taken through the window of the plane so I apologise for the quality of the pic.

Rocks #4 Lake Clifton Thrombolites

The Lake Clifton Thrombolites are in the Yalgorup National Park about half an hours drive from Mandurah along the Old Coast Road.  They don't look like much, just a stretch of small stepping stones but these are living rocks, a relic from the earliest days of life on our planet. The Lake Clifton Thrombolites are not a well known tourist attaction. I have driven along Old Coast Road many times before we even contemplated detouring to see what they actually were. Just rocks in the water really, but reading their history you view them in a different light. You have to be lucky to get to the Lake when the tide is out and the wind is not blowing, otherwise it just looks like an ordinary Lake. They sit in shallow water along a 6 klm section of the Lake. It is really only a thin film of bacteria on the surface that keeps the rocks "alive" . A boardwalk has been constructed for visitors to walk out over the Lake and to protect the Thrombolites.  Visit this page for more information http://www.westernaustralia-travellersguide.com/thrombolites.html

The following photos are from the first time we went there and the tide was in and the wind gusting. A different perspective altogether

Fridays Fences : Wheely

Pardon the pun, I just couldn't help myself. The house is called "King Wheel Cottage" This fence is in the town of Kingston in New Zealand's South Island. I saw that the host of Fridays Fences loves wagon wheels so I hope she likes this fence.

Check out more great fences here at http://lifeaccordingtojanandjer.blogspot.com.au/

Skywatch Friday

New Zealand is not called "The land of the long white cloud" for no reason. These shots were taken just out of Kingston on the way to Queenstown on a beautiful autumn day in May 2012. The road runs along  Lake Wakatipu all the way Queenstown. The cloud was low over the Lake and the autumn colours on the trees were a delight.

Kookaburra

I had the feeling, as I was working out in the backyard, that someone was watching me. This little guy just sat on the fence looking, so I raced inside to get the camera before he decided to move on. Sharing with Wild Bird Wednesday http://paying-ready-attention-gallery.blogspot.com.au/

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone out there can help me I would be obliged. I am suddenly having trouble adding photos. I click on appropriate button, window comes up telling me I can post JPG, GIF Etc but I am not getting a browse button to add pics from my computer.  Has anyone else had this problem and if so could you please let me know what to do. Funny thing is I can add pics from my  i pad no problem so I don't know if some setting or something has gone amiss on this computer. I have followed the ideas given on the help page of disabling add ons and clearing the cache and cookies but that hasn't helped.  I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Just Rambling On

Thankfully, a cool change came for the start of 2013. The heatwave we experienced for the last week of 2012 is now just a distant memory. I am looking forward to the challenges of this year. I have made no New Years Resolutions, I do however have a Masterplan, which we intend to put into practice sometime this year. There is plenty to plan and research, as this will be life changing, hopefully for the better. As time goes by I will post on my progress, but for the present little can be said.

I am looking forward to a visit from my husband's brother from New Zealand,  who is coming to stay for 3 weeks in February.  My dear daughter gave us tickets to see Cliff Richard at Sandalford Winery in February also, thankfully the concert is the day before said brother-in-law goes home and not the same night he flies out.

I want to continue to keep fit and healthy because I feel this is one of the most important things in life as you age. I play golf every Monday with a group of ladies, some of whom are in their eighties. One in particular, leaves some of us younger sixty odds  in her wake. She is my benchmark, I want to be as active as she is when I am her age.

More travel will be on the cards for this year too. Our highlight of 2012 was a trip to New Zealand in April. I must share some of those photos with you at some stage. This year will be mainly travelling in Western Australia, most likely just weekend getaways at this stage. I love taking short breaks, no elaborate planning, just get up and go. Sometimes just day trips, sometimes overnighters. No matter where we go we will take the road less travelled and try to find some amazing and interesting sights.  Big cities and bright lights are not for me. Who knows what is around the next bend?
