Mt Matilda Walk Trail

This morning HOM & I, along with another couple went on a 3 hour bush walk along the Mount Matilda Walk Trail in the Wongan Hills. Our guide was Ian, an extremely fit 84 year old. Being new to town he offered to show us the area. Ian has been taking tourists around the local area for many years now. His knowledge of the plant life is second to none. Some rare species of plants are found only in this area and he is keen to share with anyone who is interesed. I do not however remember any of the botanical names he gave but I do know that when we walk this trail again I will have a greater appreciation. There are very few plants in flower at present but they do start to bloom from June to November, so a monthly walk of the area will be in order. We did however spot an echidna in the bush, Ian showed us various spider webs, some of which I had never heard of before. There is a curtain spider, pebble spider and also the trapdoor which I have heard of.

    How nice to have your own personal tour guide. He's doing well for his age a 3 hour walk. Ewwww don't like spiders.

      He certainly set a cracking pace Diane. Thankfully we didn't see the occupants of the trapdoor, I don't particularly like spiders myself either.

    Love the echidna of course, he's one of our cutest!
    Linley the trapdoor photos are really special! I've never seen a (nest?) before and would have never realised the truly magnificent camouflage. I think I expected something a little more obvious, a little something to make one suspicious, but not that hidden work of art. Amazing.

    Hi Linley, great photos taken on your bush walk. That gentleman must be ever so interesting to talk with. I've never seen an echidna, they look such interesting animals. Found the spider trapdoor fascinating.
