A Little Visitor

Having bushland opposite me, I can't be surprised when little visitors drop in. Today this lizard decided to come into my patio. I spotted him coming up the steps, otherwise I would have missed him. Yesterday, our neighbour came rushing in, letting us know there was a snake in the front garden.  Thankfully he was able to catch and kill it as it was extremely venomous. With dogs and small children next door we couldn't be too careful. I don't mind lizards or goannas, but I am very wary of snakes, so much so that I won't go bushwalking in the summer because of them.

The last I saw of him he was headed for the back garden, no doubt I will see him again sometime

This goanna was hiding under a bush in the front garden, hubby got a fright when he put his hand on it while weeding, he was relocated back to the bush, in a bucket.

  1. you're first lizard is quite beautiful; never seen one like it. The bucket-guy I'd say is a stumpy-tail, might you think?

    1. The first one hung around for quite awhile just watching us. He didn't make any attempt to move until I got the broom and escorted him back to the garden. I have been trying to identify it but I am still not sure Carole. The bucket guy we call bobtails over here. They are quite slow moving so are easy to catch. The other little guy was too quick.

    1. After the heat we have had I would welcome a winter blizzard. The extreme heat is responsible for bringing these little guys out. They thrive in the heat.

  3. Both are handsome specimens indeed. I adore a lovely lizard Linley. I haven't seen any here at all. I'm with you I do not engage in bushwalking during high summer here, I've had too many close calls I'm afraid!

  5. So lucky the snake was spotted before it bit anyone Linley, was it a dugite? Love the little lizard, the markings always make me think of Aboriginal paintings :) You will find so much going on when you come up to Perth next week, try and get into the Cultural centre (ny the art gallery) lots to see.

  7. Great photos of these reptiles. You have to use every precaution with venomous snakes don't you? I have only seen one or two species of our US venomous snakes behind glass at the reptile house.
