"Pioneering Women of Lake Grace"

This quite large mural is on the wall outside of the local shopping centre at Lake Grace. It is dedicated to past and present women who have contributed to their local community. Lake Grace is a wheat and sheep farming area surrounded by the  large salt lake from which it takes it's name. My previous post shows some beautiful pink flowering gum trees in the main street of town.

This first section is acknowledging the Flying Doctor Service and Hospital set up by Rev John Flynn and the Matrons and nurses serving there over the years

The mural was painted by Irene Osborne  and all the names of the women are listed.
A book titled "Far Site - Women of the Salt Lake Country" tells their stories

This friendly area encourages motorists to wave to one another as they pass.

  1. That is a big mural. These small country towns do a great job with their history and murals.

  2. I'm a history buff so I find historic murals interesting. Even more so when the artist leaves the names of the people involved.

  9. It always enjoyable to see local heroes heralded in murals. So much more personal for the viewer. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
